History of the Karragullen Fruit Growing Industry
Karragullen has a history going back to the early settler days
of the late 1800's.
This suburb (formally known as the Canning Mills District) along
with Pickering Brook and Carmel to the East and Roleystone to the
West, is home to some of the most successful and productive
orchards in the state, the oldest dating back to 1893.
Many of these orchards were developed by migrants and have
subsequently been taken over by their 1st and 2nd
generation Australian descendants.
